The Political Cognition Lab at the Institute of Psychology, Polish Academy of Sciences is launching a project on how increasingly deep interactions with AI chatbots influence our social and political thinking.

Principal Investigator (PI): Dr. hab. Marta Marchlewska, Professor at the Institute of Psychology, PAS
Co-Principal Investigator (Co-PI): Dr. Dominika Adamczyk

Project duration: 2026–2030
Funding amount: PLN 3,833,500

What are we focusing on?
We study what happens when AI becomes not just a tool, but an active participant in our social world.

We are particularly interested in:
– How AI influences the way we think about politics and society
– Whether it changes susceptibility to misinformation and conspiracy theories
– How it affects social relationships and trust in others
– How it shapes our attitudes, opinions, and decisions

How will we study it?
– Large-scale studies on representative samples + targeted samples
– Tracking intensive AI chatbot users over 3 years
– UX research and real user experiences
– Advanced statistical models (including random intercept models)
– Experiments on how to communicate about AI to support mindful use

Why does it matter?
Because AI is starting to influence not only individuals, but also how we function as participants in social and political life

What will come out of it?
Reports, publications, a social campaign… and more
We will share details about our special intervention in upcoming project materials.

Stay tuned!
